Company History

Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research
Located on the Rutgers campus in New Brunswick, New Jersey, the Institute for Health was founded in 1985 and is a vibrant, multidisciplinary organization dedicated to scholarly collaboration and research that focuses on critical questions related to healthcare services and policy, population health, aging, and health and mental healthcare. Its core and associate members include 82 outstanding faculty who have generated award-winning scholarship that has influenced fields including medical sociology, economics, health psychology, gerontology, history of medicine, nursing, public health, psychiatry, global health, health services, medicine, social work, pharmacy, medical ethics, and health policy. Several research centers exist within the Institute including the Center for State Health Policy; Center for Health Services Research; and Center for Pharmacoepidemiology and Treatment Science. Faculty members have held research and training grants funded by the National Institutes of Health, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and other major funding organizations. The Institute for Health has served as home to six faculty elected to the National Academy of Medicine. Faculty are actively involved in mentoring future scholars at the graduate and undergraduate levels. The Institute is housed in a 57,000 square foot state-of-the-art, custom-built academic and research facility located in the heart of New Brunswick, an ethnically diverse city with easy access to public transportation to New York City and Philadelphia.
Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS)
In July 2013, Rutgers University and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) were integrated into a single consolidated university creating enhanced possibilities for innovative, integrative, interdisciplinary research on socio-behavioral and biomedical health and healthcare. In addition to the Institute, RBHS is comprised of the following schools, centers, and institutes: Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, New Jersey Medical School, School of Dental Medicine, Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, School of Nursing, School of Public Health, School of Health Professions, School of Graduate Studies, Brain Health Institute, Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute, Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine, Institute for Translational Medicine and Science, Cancer Institute of New Jersey, and University Behavioral Health Care. The Institute for Health serves as a central bridge among scholars pursuing health-related social science, humanities, and policy research in the arts and sciences within departments and schools of the greater Rutgers University and with biomedical scientists and practitioners in RBHS units.
